Terms of use

This site reads public forecasts and tells you what they add up to for places on Skye. It is a starting point for planning, not a safety service, and the decision to go — and when to turn back — is always yours.

What the verdicts are

Every verdict is worked out automatically from forecasts published by others: the Mountain Weather Information Service for the hills, and weather models including the Met Office's for the low ground. Forecasts are sometimes wrong, mountain weather changes faster than any of them, and ours can be out of date or mistaken. Each verdict shows when it was worked out.

Before you go

• Read the MWIS forecast and the Met Office yourself on the day.
• Take a map and compass and know how to use them; don't rely on a phone.
• Tell someone your route and when you'll be back.
• In an emergency, call 999, ask for the police, then Mountain Rescue.
